All Star Application

Mission: To produce the most unbiased effort in selecting the highest quality All-Star teams in each age division to best represent Jax Beach Baseball Association.

2023 JBBA All Star Application

All forms for ages 11-12 must be submitted no later than January 16, 2023.
  • Select the desired All Star team that your player intends to participate on/or try out for. If you choose to try out for one of our "A" All-Star teams (11u, 12u, etc), your child will automatically be considered for the "B" team in their respective league if they are not selected to the "A" team. If you choose to only be considered for the "B" team then your child may still be considered for the "A" team if their baseball skills warrant a placement on the "A" team but your preference will be noted and strongly considered during the team selection process.
    1. The initial cost of all-star participation is $250.00 per child. You will be asked to raise additional money through sponsorships, fundraising, or be required to make additional contributions to cover your team’s total costs as $250.00 is typically not sufficient. Costs for all-stars that need to be covered include (but are not limited to): uniforms, equipment, game balls, umpire fees, & tournament fees.
    2. Selection of a child to a team is not guaranteed. Parents and children must agree to participate on the team of which he/she is selected.
    3. Your child may be selected for either an “A” team or a “B” team in his/her appropriate age division. “A” teams are selected prior to the selection of the “B” team. “B” teams are not a certainty and are established based on the JBBA Board discretion based on evaluation of the number & quality of available players and coaches after the “A” teams have been selected.
    4. Players whom apply and do not agree to play after selection must be approved for All-Star play in subsequent years by writing to the JBBA Board with an explanation. There is no guarantee they will be allowed to play in future years if they choose not to participate after selection.
    5. Players are only eligible to be selected to an all-star team that corresponds with the recreational ball spring division for which they are registered. Example: an 8yo participating in the Minors division shall only be eligible for a 9u, 10u or 10b all-star team and will not be eligible for the 8u or 8b Machine Pitch all-star teams.
    6. Practices will begin in the beginning of February. All-Star teams typically practice 2-3 times per week leading up to the tournament schedule. Players are expected to participate in/attend 90% of practices and games.
    7. The All-Star season runs through the completion of Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Tournament play. 2023 Cal Ripken Tournament Dates can run, if your team qualifies, from Districts/Qualifiers beginning in Early June through the completion of the World Series in mid-August. The specific dates can be found at Floridababeruth.com. More information will be provided at a later date.
    8. There will be additional tournaments other than the official Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken ones listed as determined by each head coach. Parents may incur additional travel related costs for tournaments.
    9. If a player cannot attend an official Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Qualifier (Including Districts), State, or Regional tournament without prior (before all-star selections are made) approval from the board, they will not be allowed to play in subsequent Cal Ripken tournaments for the remainder of the season, should the team qualify.
  • Policy Statement

    • Jax Beach Baseball Association (JBBA) does not allow participation by a player with any other organized baseball program or team during the Spring or Summer All-Star baseball season. During the summer All-Star season, a player may not participate with, try out for, practice with, play for, be on the roster of, be involved with the formation of, or be involved with the fund raising for any other youth baseball team not organized by JBBA.
    • The time period of such restrictions begins with the date of the first practice of a player’s All-Star team and continues through the completion of the All Star/Babe Ruth Tournament games. A player may participate with any other baseball program or team immediately upon the completion of all the player’s All-Star Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Tournament games.
    • These restrictions do not apply to participation in interscholastic baseball programs, including middle school and high school.
    • Any violation of this policy may result in the player’s immediate dismissal and expulsion from further play with any JBBA Baseball team. Upon such dismissal and expulsion, no monies shall be refunded by JBBA

  • All Star Selection Process

    1. Players asked to apply and agree to play on the team on which they have been selected. Players whom apply and do not agree to play after team selection must be approved to play in subsequent years by writing to the JBBA Board with an explanation.
    2. League Representatives will compose a list of all players who apply and submit this list with evaluation criteria to each manager of the league. There will be a one day try out that will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 6pm. League managers, prior to player selection, have the opportunity to evaluate all players who have applied for the team through prior and current regular season games, past AB/All-Star experience, and scheduled practices. Both previous all-star players and newly interested players are equally evaluated during these events – and the evaluation process involves consideration of all of the above exposure points, and not just the try out process.
    3. Players are evaluated on all skills including, but not limited to, catching, throwing, running, pitching (if applicable), hitting, coachability, attitude, and sportsmanship. Parents are also evaluated based on the parent code of conduct as the team extends beyond the players themselves.
    4. League Managers convene and together select players for all stars. Leagues with an opportunity for A and B teams will have players slotted accordingly. Knowledge of the player’s rankings will be determined by ballot and be known only to the League Director or assisting Board Member until the appropriate time to announce.
    5. “A” All-Star teams will be rostered by the League Managers with the top eight (8) vote getters. The next four (4) additional players shall be selected through a collaborative process involving all the all-star team coaches for each particular age group. The head coach and each board approved assistant coach for each age group (for the team they are coaching) shall have equal voting rights in the selection process of the additional 4 slots once the top 8 players have been established. Roster size will be no less than 12 players. “B” All-Star teams will be selected after the completion of the “A” team selection process.
    6. The JBBA Board of Directors must review and ratify all team selections before coaches notify the selected players. Should any player not choose to play, the All-Star Manager will fill his/her roster from the remaining applicants.
    7. Any applicant selected to participate in the All-Star program will be required to pay a $250.00 registration fee. Registration fee is due at first practice prior to uniform order being placed.
    8. Our governing affiliation, Cal Ripken, has imposed boundary requirements and eligibility restrictions on players that are new to JBBA or that are returning to JBBA after playing with other baseball programs. If this situation is applicable to your player candidate, please reach out to your league representative so your situation can be discussed with the appropriate board member.
    9. In the event of any disputes, disagreements, conflicts of interest or matters that require further discussion, an independent group of Board Members shall address the issue and provide guidance and/or decisions.
