Advanced, Competitive, and Rec Divisions Explained

JBBA Spring Divisions Explained

As JBBA has grown, we now have players with very different levels of experience and goals. To give every kid the right baseball experience, we offer different divisions based on age group and skill level. Below is a clear breakdown so you know exactly what each option means for your player.

Machine Pitch (MP)

Two divisions: Recreational and Competitive
MP does not use All-Stars or Advanced Baseball for spring placement.

Recreational (MP Rec)
• Best for newer or developing players
• Focus on learning, fun, and confidence
• Low pressure, equal reps, and a great intro to the game

Competitive (MP Comp)
• For players with stronger fundamentals (throwing, hitting, fielding, catching, baseball IQ)
• Faster pace and higher competition
• Tryout required to confirm readiness and safety
• If a player is not ready, they will be placed in MP Rec

Do MP players need to be All-Stars or Advanced to choose Competitive?
No. MP Competitive does not require All-Star or Advanced experience.

Minors and Majors

Two divisions: Advanced and Recreational

Advanced Division (Minors/Majors Advanced)
• Highest commitment and competition
• Roster spots are limited and earned through tryouts

Recreational Division (Minors/Majors Rec)
• Strong, fun, competitive league for players not placed on an Advanced roster
• Great for development, reps, and building confidence
• No travel or high-pressure expectations
• All players are drafted and placed on balanced teams

Important Note
Because Minors and Majors have smaller numbers than Machine Pitch, only All-Star–level players will be placed on Advanced rosters. All other players will play in the Recreational division, which remains highly competitive and well-coached.
